Smartphones of Motorola Solutions have proved effective as On-Board Unit (OBU) for mm-lab’s Proving Ground Management System PGMS for years. With its latest edition of OBUs mm-lab follows the generation change of Motorola. Henceforth new OBUs are delivered with the new Motorola LEX L11. Like its predecessor are these devices particularly suitable for the challenging use in test vehicles. They are characterized by ruggedness, strong loudspeakers and an excellent voice quality in hands-free mode even under noisy conditions.

 

But not only the smartphone component of OBU is new: New features of LEX L11 like the integrated RFID card reader allow a simpler car cradle. Also a new development is the external GNSS receiver, formerly part of the cradle. The GNSS receiver of the current generation is paired via Bluetooth and can be mounted somewhere in the car independently of the OBU. Like before the GNSS module is ready for Real Time Kinematics (RTK) and therefore basic for mm-lab’s highly precise Collision Awareness System named CAVE!

 

Depending on operating conditions these features allow the usage of other smartphones as OBU. Hence it is now also possible to provide cheaper OBUs customized to the respective requirements of the client.
